Manchester City reportedly have a plan in place should Kyle Walker end up leaving the club this summer.
The right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich in recent weeks and has even verbally agreed to join the German club, who City will be playing tomorrow in their latest pre-season friendly game.
In his recent press conference, Pep Guardiola revealed that the club are fighting to keep hold of the defender but admits he doesn’t know how this particular transfer saga will end.
Now though, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding what the Citizens will do should the 33-year-old wave goodbye to the club.
City to look for Walker replacement
According to a recent report from The Athletic, City will look to sign a replacement for Walker if he does join Bayern in the coming weeks.
Shortly after it was revealed that the Englishman had verbally agreed to join the German side, it was claimed that the Citizens had identified Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard as their number one target to replace Walker.
However, Guardiola refused to talk about this potential move in his recent press conference.
Since joining the Manchester club back in 2017 from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth a reported fee of £50m, the England international has made 254 appearances for City across all competitions, winning five Premier League titles along the way.
Having featured in 39 games last season, it’s easy to see why the club would look to bring in a replacement for Walker given how prominent and useful he has been for the team.
Moving forward, while the main objective should be to convince the veteran to stay where he is, if he does decide to start a new chapter in his career with Bayern, City should do all they can to bring in a fresh face that can help fill the potential void left by Walker and strengthen the defence.
