Manchester City made light work of Slovan Bratislava, beating them 4-0 in their second outing in the Champions League this season.

Pep Guardiola’s men won their first game of their ongoing European campaign, thanks to goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and James McAtee.

Considering Slovan Bratislava have qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history, the contest was always set to be a mismatch.

Vladimir Weiss’ side gave City far too much to space to exploit and as a top teams do, they took advantage of that.

Pep Guardiola will perhaps be especially satisfied that his team are up and running in Europe’s elite competition.

Manchester United Champions League record Man City matched revealed

With the Champions League testing out their league phase for the first time, the Sky Blues could have been in deep trouble had they dropped points once again on Tuesday night.

With no history of such a format being in place, there is no indication so far of how many points a team needs to directly qualify for the Round of 16.

However, City could afford to play at the pace of a training game and still vanquish the European minnows.

After their win against the Slovakian side, the Premier League winners are set to face Fulham on Saturday.

By defeating Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City equalled Manchester United’s all-time record of the most unbeaten games in the Champions League (25 games) — as per Football on TNT Sports.

According to Stat Muse FC, United’s record last from 2007 until 2009 under Sir Alex Ferguson’s regime while City’s began in 2022.

Manchester City are favourites to break Manchester United record

It seems like Manchester City could break Manchester United’s record in their next game.

The English giants face Slavia Praha — a team they should be fancied to beat.

At the very least, it would take a massive upset for both sides to even share the spoils.

But even if that is the case, Manchester City’s unbeaten run in the Champions League would continue and they would surpass Manchester United’s record in the competition.

City could enter their next European fixture with the motivation of making more history.
