Manchester City have reportedly turned down an offer from Ajax for James McAtee.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Dutch club had added the 20-year-old to their list of potential transfer targets should Mohammed Kudus leave.
With Kudus now having joined West Ham United, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Ajax’s pursuit of the midfielder.
City knock back Ajax offer for McAtee
According to a recent report from journalist Alan Nixon in a recent post on his Patreon page, City knocked back an offer made by Ajax for McAtee.
Nixon also added that Wolves even asked about potentially signing the Englishman during their recent meetings with City over Matheus Nunes.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, where he helped the Yorkshire club win promotion back to the Premier League by scoring nine goals and delivering three assists in 37 Championship appearances.
This has season has seen McAtee being involved in Pep Guardiola’s senior squad at City, but has only played one minute of action in the late stage of their opening Premier League game of the season against Burnley.
With Nixon claiming that the treble winners turned down an offer from Ajax for the player, who has previously been described as a “special” player by football talent scout Jacek Kulig on Twitter, this suggests that they want to keep hold of him for the time being.
Bearing in mind how the summer transfer window is set to close on Friday night, it’ll be intriguing to see if any other offers come in for McAtee and whether he’ll still be in Guardiola’s squad after the window shuts.
