Man City identify ideal replacement for Riyad Mahrez; it’s not Raphinha

Manchester City have reportedly identified Olympique Lyon winger Bradley Barcola as a suitable replacement for Riyad Mahrez.

It was reported yesterday that the Citizens have agreed to sell the 32-year-old to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli for a fee of £30m.

It has also been claimed that the Manchester club see Barcelona winger, Raphinha, as a top target to try and sign should the Algerian walk away from the Etihad Stadium.

Now though, another name has cropped up that the treble winners are apparently looking to bring in so they can fill the void left by Mahrez.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City have shortlisted Barcola as a potential replacement for Mahrez and that the club’s scouts have been very impressed with what they have seen from the 20-year-old

The report also adds that Paris Saint-German and RB Leipzig also have their eyes on the winger, with the French club apparently speaking to his agent, Jorge Mendes, about a potential transfer deal for him.

Having made his senior debut for Lyon back in November 2021, the winger has now made 44 first-team appearances for the French club across all competitions, scoring seven goals and delivering 12 assists along the way.

Five of those goals and nine of those assists came throughout the previous Ligue 1 campaign where he made 26 appearances and played in numerous attacking positions such as the left and right wings and as a centre-forward.

With that versatility and clear attacking talent in mind, it’s easy to see why City, PSG and Leipzig have their eyes on the young Frenchman.

Moving forward, given the significant interest that Barcola has in him as things stand, the treble winners may have a challenge on their hands securing his signature if that’s what they want to do once Mahrez leaves.
