Man City interested in Joshua Kimmich transfer

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

In terms of the upcoming summer transfer window, the midfield could be an area that Pep Guardiola looks to tinker, especially with Ilkay Gundogan in danger of leaving as a free agent when his current contract expires.

Also, with reported City target, Jude Bellingham, looking close to joining Real Madrid, it has now been claimed that the Manchester club have turned their attention to signing another one of Europe’s top midfielders.

City eyeing Kimmich transfer deal

According to a recent report from 90 Min, City believe that Kimmich would be a perfect fit in their midfield and could use Joao Cancelo in a potential swap deal to help get the German to join the club.

Cancelo, who City secured a £60m deal for back in 2019, joined Bayern on loan back in the previous January transfer window.

The German club reportedly have an option to buy the full-back on a permanent basis for €70m (£60m), which they are apparently not looking to trigger.

As for Kimmich, the 28-year-old has made 346 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, 36 of which came under the guidance of Guardiola, who has previously shared his admiration for the player.

That makes it easy to see why City have an apparent interest in reuniting the two this summer at the Etihad Stadium.

Given the previous reports of seeing Guardiola fall out with Cancelo before his mid-season departure to Germany, if the defender isn’t likely to have much of a future back at City, it could well be a smart move from the club to use him in a potential swap deal if it helps them land Kimmich’s signature.
