Manchester City must land a deal to sign Matheus Nunes this summer, even if it means going against their usual transfer stance.
After seeing a £47m bid for the Wolves midfielder rejected, it has since been reported that the Manchester club could walk away from a potential deal as they don’t want to pay more than £55m for the player, who the Old Gold value at £60m.
With the Citizens having a track record when it comes to walking away from potential transfer deals due to them not wanting to pay more for a player than they feel is necessary, such as Marc Cucurella, Harry Maguire and Alexis Sanchez, as Pep Guardiola mentioned recently, it’s no surprise that reports have now emerged suggesting the same could happen with Nunes.
City should pay up for Nunes

However, we feel that, on this occasion, given the fees being mentioned, City should go against their previous track record and do all they can to secure a deal for the Wolves star, even if it means paying slightly more than they may feel the player is worth.
Bearing in mind how Guardiola will have to make do without Kevin De Bruyne for the next few months due to injury and the fact that they stepped away from signing West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta, this shows that they need to add a new player to their squad that can play in the middle of the field.

Bearing in mind how the Wolves figure featured in every midfield position for his side last season, this sort of versatility shows why the 25-year-old would be a solid addition to City’s squad and maybe worth the £60m he’s apparently valued at.
With that in mind, and the fact that there are only a couple of days left before the summer transfer window closes, we feel that City should stretch their usual transfer stance on this occasion and pay what Wolves want for Nunes, or perhaps work out a deal that could include a player currently at the Manchester club making his way to Molineux in an effort to keep the transfer fee closer to where City want it to be.
