Manchester City are reportedly keeping an eye on Sunderland’s 16-year-old goalkeeper Matthew Young.
The Manchester club have a record when it comes to signing young players from fellow English clubs and adding them to their youth squads such as Harrison Parker, Luca Fletcher and Emilio Lawrence among others.
Now though, the club have set their sights on securing the services of another teenage prospect currently making a name for himself at a fellow English side, but face some competition from one of their closest enemies.
City monitoring Sunderland youth star

According to a recent report from iNews, the Citizens and their close rivals Manchester United are monitoring Young, who has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of former Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
After making 16 appearances for Sunderland’s U18 side, across which he managed to keep six clean sheets, the Englishman has now made four appearances for the Wearside club’s U21 side.
Across those four games, Young has conceded three goals but kept two clean sheets.

Even though the youngster has yet to make a senior appearance for the Championship club, the fact that he has the two Manchester sides looking at him and been likened to Pickford suggests that he has been doing something right and has the potential to become a top shot-stopper in the future.
Moving forward, if City feel like Young has what it takes to do that, they should do all they can to secure his signature and help him develop his game so he can have a chance of potentially becoming a first-team figure for the Citizens.
