Manchester City have seen multiple players leave the club during the 2024 summer transfer window.
For example, names such as Joao Cancelo, Julian Alvarez, Sergio Gomez and Micah Hamilton have waved goodbye to the Etihad Stadium to join new sides on permanent deals.
Now though, on the final day of the window, some behind-the-scenes information has come to light regarding a player currently in Pep Guardiola’s ranks who the club have been working to keep hold of this summer.

Man City in line to offer James McAtee a new deal
In a recent post on his official X account, journalist Sam Lee had this to say on the matter.
He said: “James McAtee is in line for a new contract after City rejected several approaches from the PL, Scotland, France, Holland and Germany (well, Stuttgart) during the summer.
“Some offers worth £30m but City said: he stays.”
McAtee could have a bright future at City
After seeing the midfielder spend the previous season on loan at Sheffield United and then feature in City’s pre-season tour of America, Guardiola said that McAtee will be a part of his senior squad for this campaign.
This highlights how much of an admirer the City boss is of McAtee and how much he believes he can be a useful figure in the senior squad.
Having started and completed 80 minutes against Manchester United in the Community Shield, the 21-year-old made his first Premier League appearance of the season as a late substitute in the recent 4-1 home win over Ipswich Town.
Now that Lee has shared how City have not only spent the summer knocking back interest from other sides in McAtee but also how they are looking to offer him a new deal, this further highlights how much he is valued as part of the club.
