Man City star has just admitted ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool player is actually his ‘role model’

It’s hard not to admire Liverpool at times, and hard not to admire Mo Salah too. Next season though, Man City have every chance of getting back on top.

Liverpool are already 11 points clear at the top of the table and a staggering 21 points ahead of Manchester City who are slumped in 6th, following their 0-0 draw against Man United last time out.

But there’s been good news for Pep Guardiola this week after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League granted an extra spot in next season’s competition for English clubs, with the top five Premier League clubs qualifying for Champions League this season.

Pep just needs to leapfrog Newcastle United in the final seven games of the season. His Man City side return to action against Crystal Palace on Saturday and once again we’ll see Omar Marmoush lead the line.

The ankle injury to Erling Haaland has prompted Pep to push January signing Marmoush into the no.9 position and on Sunday, Gary Neville praised Marmoush’s performance with the Egyptian arguably Man City’s best player.

Man City star Omar Marmoush admits Mo Salah is his ‘role model’

Marmoush has recently given an interview and discussed his Egyptian national teammate Mohamed Salah. Marmoush and Salah played together for Egypt during the March international break although they had mixed results on the big stage that week. Nonetheless, Marmoush has admitted that the Liverpool star is his ‘role model’ in the game, despite Man City and Liverpool’s rivalry.

Marmoush explained: “It’s very nice for our country to have two really good players in this league and his form right now is unbelievable, and it’s not surprising because of how professional he is and how focussed he is on what he does. But I said before, everyone has his own story. He achieved a lot and for us he’s a role model.”

Salah, now 32, is on track to win a fourth Premier League Golden Boot this season having scored 27 goals in 31 league games this season, having also notched an incredible 17 assists for Arne Slot’s Reds.

There’s certainly a lot of similarities between Salah and Marmoush: both are tricky wingers but prolific ones too, and we’ve seen in Marmoush’s early stages at Man City a player with real Premier League potential.

But he’s a long way to go yet before he’s compared to the likes of Salah who’s simply been one of the best attackers the Premier League has ever seen, following his 2017/18 move to Anfield from Roma.

In 394 total games for Liverpool, Salah has an incredible 243 goals and 111 assists, with 184 Premier League goals ranking him 5th in the league’s all-time top scorers list.

Man City’s game against Crystal Palace kicks off at 12:30pm on Saturday.
