Riyad Mahrez is reportedly close to sealing a transfer move away from Manchester City.
The winger has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli, in recent weeks, with City agreeing a £30m deal to sell him.
Having been left out of the Manchester club’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the Algerian’s proposed move to Al-Ahli.
Mahrez close to City exit
According to a recent update from RMC Sport (via Sport Witness), despite the reported deal between the two sides, there are still some details to be settled before the move can be officially announced.
It has also been revealed that Mahrez will be signing a three-year deal with the Saudi club and receive a salary of €35m-per-year (£29m), with City picking up a fee of €25m (£21m) for the 32-year-old.
After joining the Manchester club back in the 2018 summer transfer window from Leicester City in a deal worth a reported fee of £60m, the winger has gone on to make 236 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions.
Across those appearances, the attacker scored 78 goals, provided 59 assists and won numerous trophies along the way including four Premier League titles.
Having found the net 15 times and supplied 13 assists last season, this shows how much of a useful attacking figure he is and why his departure could be a big blow for Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, with Mahrez not featuring in the FA Cup or Champions League finals, this could be why he is looking to start a new chapter in his career at the Saudi club where he’s likely to be a regular starter.
Moving forward, we feel that if this deal does get completed, City should definitely look to bring in a suitable replacement before the summer transfer window closes, preferably with someone that can be as effective in front of goal as the Algerian has been.
