Manchester City youngster Shea Charles has officially left the club to join Southampton.

The midfielder has completed a move to the Championship outfit for a fee of £15 million all-in.

Saints manager Russell Martin said of his new capture: “Shea is a very talented, intelligent and mature young player with great potential to develop his game with us.

“We’ve watched him closely and we’re confident he’s got the right attributes to help us in the way we’re going to play.”

Just days earlier it had been reported this move was expected to complete this week.

Charles only ever made one first-team appearance for City.

He got a cameo in the club’s final game of 2022/23 against Brentford.

He will now look to get regular football in order to realise his fantastic potential.

Lots of fans wished Charles well on his new chapter.

There were also some of his City teammates in the comments bidding him farewell.

Rico Lewis said: “All the best brother!”

Josh Wilson-Esbrand said: “My brother! All the best!”

There were also messages from a couple more senior players.

Kalvin Phillips wrote: “Good luck bro!!!”

And Nathan Ake added: “All the best brother.”

A great deal for Man City

This is yet more absolutely brilliant work from City on the player sales front.

To sell Charles for a £15 million fee after just one cameo appearances for the first-team is great stuff.

Not only that, but City have also successfully negotiated a sell-on clause with Southampton.

Furthermore, they have buy-back rights for the player.

Not only have City been brilliantly compensated for losing an exciting young prospect, but they have also protected themselves for the future should Charles realise his potential.
