Manchester City will reportedly fight Liverpool and Bayern Munich all the way to sign the hugely talented Florian Wirtz.
90min have reported that City remain interested in the German youngster, who has been seriously impressing with Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso is doing a terrific job at the Bundesliga side, and Florian Wirtz has been one of the standout players for an outfit currently three points clear at the top of the table.

Manchester City seriously want Florian Wirtz
According to 90min, City are determined to sign Wirtz. But the club are facing strong competition from Liverpool and also Bayern Munich, who are known for hoovering up the best young talents in Germany.
Wirtz’s start to the new season has been extremely impressive, especially considering he only returned from an ACL injury at the start of 2023.
It is stated that any transfer is more likely to come in 2025, and that the player has a preference to stay in Germany, making Bayern the favourites for his signature.
But City are not giving up and neither are Liverpool. The two Premier League giants are said to be ‘huge admirers’ of Wirtz and intend to fight Bayern ‘all the way’ for the 20-year-old, who has been described as ‘outstanding’ by former Bayern and Germany manager Hansi Flick.
Given the recent injury history of Kevin De Bruyne and the Belgian’s advancing years, a move by City for Wirtz is definitely something to keep an eye out for.
Wirtz a top young talent
It is encouraging to hear that City are so keen on signing Wirtz, because he does look to be a serious talent.
Recently, Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface – who is also having a really good season – said of Wirtz (Sportbuzzer): “After just one game it was clear to me that Flo[rian Wirtz] was a brilliant footballer, a magician. When my agent told me about Bayer’s interest, it was immediately clear to me that I would really like to play in a team with him.”
Unfortunately, it seems as though Wirtz – who reportedly earns just under £40,000 per week – may not be on the move for while, with the player’s father and agent recently suggesting he’ll stay with the club for the 2024/25 season.
But City should definitely keep themselves in position to sign the youngster. He really good be the ideal long-term De Bruyne replacement.
