Manchester City have a ‘classy’ young player on their hands who is set to become a full England international in the future.

That is the word from Coventry Telegraph reporter Andy Turner, who followed the starlet closely during his time on loan at the club last season.

Doyle has been with City since 2014 and has made big progress in his time with the club.

He has developed into a seriously promising ball-playing centre-half, and Coventry fans got to see that throughout 2022/23.

Doyle made an impressive 41 appearances for Coventry in the Championship. He then made a further three appearances in the play-offs.

Sadly for Coventry, they came up just short in their bid for promotion, losing the final on penalties to Luton Town.

But it was a fine stint for Doyle, who is another wonderful prospect on the books at City.

Callum Doyle on course to become full England international in the future

Doyle hasn’t played for City’s first-team yet.

But it seems as though there’s a reasonable chance Doyle could become a success some day at the Etihad Stadium.

City have produced a feature on Doyle, which includes comments from the Coventry Telegraph’s Andy Turner, who watched him week in, week out last term.

And he reveals that the consensus about Doyle is that he is a magnificent young talent who will likely be turning out for the England seniors one day.

He told City’s official website: “He has a superb range of passing, including the ability to hit long diagonals to land on a sixpence with a wand of a left foot. He fitted in effortlessly to Coventry’s play out from the back style and would certainly suit a possession-based team.

“Most people who saw Doyle play for Coventry concluded he is a future England player in the making.

“He’s a ready-made Championship performer at this stage of his development who is more than comfortable at the level.

“He’s not an old fashioned aggressive type or master of the dark arts like [Kyle] McFadzean, but a classy Rolls Royce of a player.”

A very exciting verdict on Callum Doyle – he could be City’s next Aymeric Laporte

These comments are sure to go down very well with City fans.

It sounds very much like Doyle has a game not dissimilar to that of Aymeric Laporte. The Spaniard is known first and foremost for being an amazing ball-player.

He has an excellent passing range and loves a raking diagonal.

But clearly Doyle is also a fine defender, having been key in Coventry finishing the season with the meanest backline (22 clean sheets was a league-high).

Doyle is actually now set to join Leicester City on loan for the coming season.

It will be a chance for him to develop in the Championship further.

And hopefully next summer, we will be talking about him as a potential first-team option at the Etihad.
