Manchester City are not done in the 2025 summer transfer market.
The opening phase of the window has been a busy one for Hugo Viana and his team as they set about rebuilding Pep Guardiola’s squad, with Tijjani Reijnders being the latest signing to arrive at the Etihad Stadium.
The Dutch star followed Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli to Manchester, with all four now expected to travel with the Premier League giants to the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday.
Once the tournament has concluded, Man City will look to sign a right-back, while the Manchester club have now been told the final price of one of their midfield targets, should Guardiola decide to sign another before the new season gets underway.

Man City will need to pay £51m for Atalanta’s Ederson
It was recently reported that Man City are interested in Ederson this summer, as there is a possibility of the midfielder leaving Atalanta after spending the last three years at the Serie A club.
In addition to City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Man United are all said to be monitoring the Brazilian’s situation in Italy, as it was previously reported that the 25-year-old had a price tag between £34m-£42m (€40m-€50m).
Ederson is a player Atalanta will ideally not want to let go as their former manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, heaped praise on the midfielder last summer, stating via Rousing the Kop: “Keeping a player like Ederson in Bergamo would mean keeping a world-class talent. We hope to succeed, even if it is always a challenge for us to keep players in such demand.”
According to Alfredo Pedulla, the Serie A outfit understands the Brazil star’s importance and have now changed their asking price, with La Dea seeking €60m (£51m) to part ways with one of their key men.
Ederson has a contract with Atalanta until 2027, which means this summer is one of the best times to cash in on the player if he has no plans to sign a new deal with the Italian club.
£51m is a lot of money to splash out for Man City when other key areas need addressing, with this change in price very likely to rule the Premier League club out of a move for the 25-year-old.
Ederson is no longer needed at Man City following Tijjani Reijnders’ transfer
Before the 2025/26 Premier League campaign gets underway, Man City will need to bring in a right-back as Kyle Walker is set to leave the Etihad Stadium, while a goalkeeper will also be required should Ederson opt to change clubs this summer.
Therefore, it is not logical for City to spend £51m on Atalanta’s Ederson when Guardiola has plenty of options for the middle of the park, and with the legendary coach calling for a smaller squad towards the end of the previous campaign.
Reijnders can do the box-to-box role Ederson would bring to Manchester, and if Guardiola wants a player to sit and hold, Rodri is his guy, while there are others, such as Mateo Kovacic, who can play in the number six role.
| Metric | Tijjani Reijnders | Ederson |
| Goals | 10 | 4 |
| Assists | 4 | 1 |
| Shots (on target) | 77 (28) | 39 (12) |
| Pass accuracy | 89.5% | 87.2% |
| Chances created | 47 | 37 |
| Succesful dribbles | 36 | 23 |
| Tackles won | 13 | 32 |
| Duels won | 89 | 181 |
| Interceptions | 38 | 35 |
| Recoveries | 125 | 186 |
Ederson would be a great signing for Man City, and if the price goes down next summer, it is a move the Premier League club should consider as Rodri approaches his 30s.
But for now, the Brazilian is not needed, especially with the large price tag currently attached to his Atalanta exit.
