PSG are in the market for a left-sided defender – and have apparently shortlisted Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.
L’Equipe have reported that the club could be set to bid farewell to a couple of players.
Sergio Ramos’ future at the club is uncertain. And Presnel Kimpembe has missed quite a lot of football through injury.
Laporte is said to be one of a few options PSG are looking at.
Bayern Munich defender and France international Lucas Hernandez is also apparently on their radar.
There has been speculation about Laporte for most of the season.
Pep Guardiola has been very reluctant to use the Spain international this term, with Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and John Stones all ahead of him in the pecking order.
It has been quite the fall from grace for Laporte, who was once a nailed-on starter at the back alongside Dias.
Today, he was overlooked again by Pep Guardiola. He’s now played just once (against Leicester City) in City’s last seven Premier League games.
Laporte recently made a cryptic post on social media to suggest that he might be looking to embark on a new chapter.
It was reported earlier this month that City will not stand in Laporte’s way if he wants to go this summer.
But of course, the club would obviously be looking for a respectable transfer fee, for a player who will have two years left on his contract this summer.
PSG a good team to sell Aymeric Laporte to for Man City if it comes to it
So PSG are in the race for Laporte, and if he does want to leave City then it should be entertained.
PSG obviously have a lot of money and there is a greater potential to secure a more handsome fee than say, Barcelona, who have also been linked with the player.
It would be a shame to see Laporte go as he has been a great player for City.
But it is understandable a player of his quality would want to leave in order to play regular football.
Hopefully City can strike a deal with a club from overseas, just so there is a smaller potential for him to come back and haunt the club.
