Manchester City reportedly feel Gavi does not want to leave Barcelona.
The Spanish midfielder is thought to be a player of interest to Pep Guardiola, and also Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Gavi’s future has been up in the air recently, after he saw La Liga block his new contract at Barca.
Gavi signed a new deal earlier this season. But as Barca had gone over their salary cap by £175 million, La Liga intervened. Gavi now legally remains on his previous youth contract, which expires in the summer.
The 18-year-old could now be heading for the Nou Camp exit this summer.
But journalist Graeme Bailey has provided an update that suggests he could still end up staying where he is.
He told TEAMtalk: “I am told that Barcelona have kept Gavi informed at every point and the player, whilst not loving the situation, has little intention of taking advantage of any option that would allow him to leave for nothing.
“Gavi had the chance to move last summer before signing this deal, and he didn’t.
“Speaking to people around his previous suitors like Liverpool and Man City, they also don’t believe he wants to move.”
It is now on Barca to sort things out so that they will be able to keep Gavi.
If they are unable to free up funds to register him by the end of the current campaign, he could be forced to leave.
There is also the possibility Barca could face legal action due to paying Gavi as a senior player. This could dash their hopes of keeping the player.

City would be fools not to keep a close eye on this situation with Gavi.
The messy situation at Barcelona could very well mean that they are unable to keep Gavi.
Supposedly, City do feel right now as though Gavi does not want to leave. But perhaps the youngster’s stance will change in the coming months and he will be open to other options.
Going to the Etihad Stadium to work with Pep Guardiola would be a fantastic move for Gavi.
He is an exceptional talent who could definitely fit into the City system.
His current manager Xavi certainly loves him. He said of him earlier this year (via Goal): “He was gifted with leadership skills. He projects that courage and that rage when he plays football and it’s something special to see. I already said this many times but I never get tired of praising him.”
It’s possible Ilkay Gundogan and Bernando Silva could both be moving on in the summer. So certainly, City should be keeping the Gavi situation in view.
