A claim has been made that Manchester City enquired about the potential transfer of Declan Rice on Friday once again.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano, after it was reported that the West Ham United captain would ‘seriously consider’ a move to the Etihad Stadium.

It seems Manchester City now hold a serious interest in signing Declan Rice, with Ilkay Gundogan’s future currently being far from secure.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City ‘asked again’ about potential Declan Rice transfer

Branded as ‘fantastic’ by Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil via Football365, the 24-year-old looks set to leave, having confirmed to have played his last game for the Hammers in the Europa Conference League final.

With Pep Guardiola’s side potentially on the verge of losing both Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva this summer, it is understandable why the club are seriously pursuing a move for the England international.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City ‘asked again’ on Friday about Declan Rice and the status of his future, as they remain unaware about Ilkay Gundogan’s plans going forward.

The Italian journalist did also claim that Rice is set to agree personal terms with Arsenal, who will submit a fresh bid after their initial £80 million offer was declined.

Manchester City should look elsewhere

As brilliant a player as Declan Rice is, Manchester City would need a different profile of midfielder to potentially replace Ilkay Gundogan or Bernardo Silva, or even both.

A No.8 that is much more of a controlling presence in the middle of the park as well as being a bigger creative threat would be much better a replacement for the City legends.

Declan Rice, on the other hand is perhaps at his complete best in a lung-busting box-to-box midfield role, which is not a requirement for the treble winners whatsoever.

As a result, it would be smarter for Manchester City to look elsewhere.
