Manchester City are reportedly showing interest in Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

According to 90min, the star’s long-term future at the Bavarian giants is uncertain at the moment.

Supposedly, City have asked to be kept informed about the player’s situation. Pavard’s contract with Bayern expires in the summer of 2024.

Bayern want to extend his deal and are targeting talks with him.

But the Frenchman’s representatives have informed the club that they won’t enter into negotiations until the end of the season.

City are not the only club looking at Pavard.

Manchester United and Real Madrid are both mentioned as well, so there is potential for a transfer battle this summer.

Pavard has been with Bayern since 2019 when he joined from Stuttgart.

Down the years he has been a very good player and really showcased his versatility in Germany.

He mainly operates as a right-back. But Pavard is capable of playing as a centre-back and can even do a job in midfield.

Bayern recently parted ways with Julian Nagelsmann and then swiftly brought in Thomas Tuchel.

And the new manager has already taken a liking to Pavard, saying of him: “I don’t want to get involved in negotiations. He’s an underrated player. He can adapt at an extremely high level, defends with big discipline. He’s a top team player. He immediately got my trust and justified it. That should be a clear statement.”

There is no word on how much Bayern would demand for the 27-year-old.

Benjamin Pavard would be a brilliant signing for Manchester City

Pavard would make for an excellent signing for Manchester City.

The star has made 152 appearances for Bayern since he signed, so clearly he’s been a trusted performer.

Pavard being able to play right-back, centre-back and in midfield suggests him as being perfect for Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard loves nothing more than for full-backs to be able to play centrally.

Not only is Pavard versatile, but he’s obviously experienced and he’s a winner too.

With Bayern he’s won the league three times. He’s also won the Champions League with them, and in 2018 he became a World Cup winner with France. That, after scoring the Goal of the Tournament against Argentina.

Kyle Walker is not getting any younger. And Joao Cancelo looks like he could leave the Etihad Stadium permanently this summer.

So a swoop for Pavard seems like a great idea.
