Manchester City are reportedly willing to allow Kalvin Phillips to leave the club on loan in January.
The midfielder was linked with a move to Newcastle United during the previous summer transfer window, but ultimately stayed at the Etihad Stadium as he admitted that he wanted to fight for a place in the team.
Now though, with the January window approaching, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the current situation concerning the 28-year-old and what next month could look like for him.
City open to Phillips loan

According to a recent report from 90 Min, Newcastle are set to push ahead with a transfer move for Phillips, after intermediaries made them aware that City are willing to let him leave on loan in January but only if the loan deal had an option for the Toon to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis.
City signed the England international from Leeds United back in the 2022 summer transfer window in a deal worth £45m.
Since then, Phillips has made just 29 appearances for the club across all competitions, only starting five of them.
Bearing in mind how the Englishman has only started one of the eight games he’s appeared in this season, it’s easy to see why the Citizens are apparently willing to move him out in January, especially if it means they can sell him in the summer and get some money for him.
Looking ahead to January, if City feel that they can cope without having Phillips in the squad for the remainder of the year, if Newcastle are willing to take a loan deal for the player that gave them the option to buy him permanently in the summer, this could definitely be something that suits all parties, especially if the midfielder is then given the chance to play regularly.
