Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has branded a claim about his future at the club as ‘lies’ on Twitter.

There has been speculation about the Algeria international over the past few weeks.

Mahrez finished the 2022/23 out of favour at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola preferred Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva on the wings, with Mahrez coming in for the odd game.

Mahrez did not play any part in either the FA Cup final of the Champions League final, and was said to be a little frustrated at that.

After the FA Cup final, a video surfaced of Mahrez looking glum as the rest of his teammates celebrated on the pitch. The player hit back at that on Twitter.

And now, the 32-year-old has taken to Twitter again to set things straight about something else that has now been said about.

Aggregator account @City_Zone shared a claim that had suggested Mahrez could be sold.

It read: “Riyad Mahrez would like to sign a new deal at #ManCity. @ManCity are unlikely to offer him one, though, and would be happy to cash in if they received a serious offer.”

This morning, Mahrez has replied to this claim, dismissing it completely.

He quote-tweeted, saying: “Day 1 of holidays and already lies.”

Mahrez also left a few emojis to sum up his frustrations.

Riyad Mahrez may be eyeing Man City stay this summer with response to new claim about him

Mahrez clearly isn’t too happy with this claim about him.

But it isn’t clear exactly which part he feels is ‘lies’.

The £60 million star could either be saying the part about him wanting to sign a new deal is a lie. Or the part about City being unlikely to offer him one. Or the final bit about the club being ready to cash in on him for the right offer.

He may well be saying that the whole thing is wrong.

Time will tell what will happen with Mahrez this summer.

He is now 32 and potentially, he will start to decline in the coming years. City may be happy to offload him in this window for the right price.

But whether Mahrez would want to depart is another matter. It’s possible from his response here that his intention is to stay at the club.
