Manchester City were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night against Tottenham Hotspur.

2-0 down after 25 minutes, Matheus Nunes managed to grab what ended up only being a consolation goal for City right on the stroke of halftime.

With multiple figures from City’s academy featuring in the game, Pep Guardiola gave defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey his senior debut against Ange Postecoglou’s side.

In the 74th minute, the defender replaced Nathan Ake and ended up making two clearances and winning both aerial duels he was involved in during his cameo appearance.

Following the game, the teenager took to social media to share his honest thoughts on the match and his first venture into senior action for the Blues.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey shares social media post after Man City debut

After the match in North London, Simpson-Pusey shared a post on his Instagram account which included numerous pictures of him on the pitch, getting ready to come on and in the warm-up.

In his caption, the 18-year-old said this about the game and what was a historic night for him individually.

He said: “Not the result we wanted… Proud to have made my @mancity senior debut”

Nico O’Reilly was full of praise for ‘composed’ Simpson-Pusey

Another youngster who has started to get his first bit of experience in the first-team squad is Nico O’Reilly.

As he completed the full 90 minutes against Spurs, O’Reilly praised Simpson-Pusey after the match.

He said: “He’s such a composed player on the ball and a solid defender. I’m really happy for him as well because he’s one of my close friends.”

With City having a long injury list at the moment, the fact that Simpson-Pusey not only proved himself to be an effective defender in his short spell on the porch against Spurs but also how proud he is to feature for the first-team will undoubtedly delight Guardiola and the City supporters.

In fact, if the injury situation were to worsen, the City boss could well end up calling upon the teenager to do a job for the senior side again at some point this season.
