TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand branded Ederson Manchester City’s man of the match, after tonight’s UEFA Super Cup.

City have won the trophy for the first time, but made hard work of it tonight.

Sevilla took the lead through Youssef En-Nesyri in the first-half, and then struggled to get back into the game.

Pep Guardiola’s side weren’t at their usual fluid best.

The absence of key players like Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva really stung, with Erling Haaland really starved of service.

But Cole Palmer, who was excellent in the game, equalised with a great back post header.

The game went to penalties, and defender Nemanja Gudelj missed Sevilla’s final kick to hand City the trophy.

Palmer is coming in for a lot of plaudits for his brilliant goal and overall performance.

He was absolutely superb on the right wing, and really sent a message to Pep Guardiola.

He was actually named the official man of the match for tonight’s game.

But straight after the match, TNT pundit Ferdinand picked out Ederson as City’s best player tonight.

He said: “They (Sevilla) were very very good. They were hard to break down and they had some big moments. Man of the match for Man City today has to be Ederson the goalkeeper. Without him, they get beat 2/3-1.”

Ederson comes in clutch against for City

This was another great performance from Ederson, who made three important stops to keep City in the contest.

Sevilla were dangerous on the break, and the Brazilian, 29, had to be alert to the danger.

Ederson was magnificent in the Champions League final against Inter.

And he came through again this evening in another European final, and is a big reason why City have lifted the Super Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
