Shay Given has said that John Stones was the standout player at Wembley Stadium as Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final.

The former City goalkeeper commented on the £47.5 million (Sky Sports) man’s Instagram post after the clash.

As Manchester City centre-back John Stones moved one step closer to becoming a treble winner as his side swatted Manchester United away, Shay Given was left stunned by his performance on Saturday.

The England international was at his imperious best against United, as he was monstrous defensively whilst in midfield, he was unplayable once again.

So much so that Jamie Carragher likened the five-time Premier League winner to all-time greats like Lothar Matthaus and Matthias Sammer.

As John Stones shone for Manchester City up against Manchester United, Shay Given reacted to his heroics by simply commenting, “Man of the Match.”

While Ilkay Gundogan stole the show with an exquisite brace against the Red Devils, the former Sky Blues No.1 clearly believes the 29-year-old set the standard on the day.

John Stones is finally getting the credit he deserves

Much like Shay Given after Manchester City beat Manchester United, many went out of their way to laud the ‘Barnsley Beckenbauer.’

It has seemed that due to his time at the Etihad Stadium being up and down for a while, when Stones did finally turn things around, several fans and pundits alike failed to notice his redemption arc.

However, for three seasons on the trot, apart from his sensational campaign during the ‘Centurions’ term, the England international has been simply unplayable.

Both on and off the ball, John Stones is one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Thankfully, it is becoming the general consensus to acknowledge that rather than to turn a blind eye to his excellence anymore.
