Manchester City are set to feature in another Community Shield match this month before the 2024/25 Premier League campaign kicks off.
Pep Guardiola’s side have featured in the three previous Community Shield finals at Wembley Stadium and have lost all of them.
This time around, for the first time since 2011, City will be taking on their close rivals Manchester United in their latest attempt to win this particular trophy.
In the final game of the previous season, the Blues lost 2-1 to the Red Devils in the FA Cup final after becoming the first team to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.
Despite that defeat, Guardiola was adamant after the game that his side were better than United on the day.
Now though, even though the Community Shield isn’t set to take place until August 10, it has now been confirmed that Erik ten Hag’s side will have to take on the reigning league champions without two big-name players in the team.

Two Man United players set to miss Community Shield clash vs Man City
In a recent article shared on United’s official club website ahead of their upcoming pre-season match against Liverpool, they revealed that Lenny Yoro “is set to be absent for around three months with a foot injury,” before adding that Rasmus Hojlund “faces around six weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem.”
City will be out for revenge against United
Yoro only joined United last month from Lille in a deal worth just under £59m (via Sky Sports) in total.
In the previous summer window, the Red Devils spent a similarly significant amount of money to sign Hojlund from Atlanta, shelling out £72m (via Sky Sports) for the striker who went on to score 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances last term.
While this will be a blow for United, we feel that City’s only focus will be on making sure they bring an end to their poor run of Community Shield final results and get revenge on their rivals after losing the FA Cup final some months ago.
