Manchester City actually held talks with Giorgio Scalvini before signing Josko Gvardiol back in August.
That is according to Tutto Mercato Web.
So, what was written about Manchester City and Giorgio Scalvini? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Italy international is currently attracting interest from Juventus – according to the Italian news outlet – with Atalanta putting a €50m (£44m) price tag on the defender.
However, Scalvini actually could have ended up at Manchester City during the summer.
Tutto Mercato Web believe Manchester City were in contact with the 19-year-old as discussions with RB Leipzig over Gvardiol hit a wall and the deal seemed unlikely.

Eventually, the treble winners struck a £77.6m agreement with the Bundesliga side and managed to secure the Croatia international’s signature.
Scalvini – who Football Talent Scout describe as an “elegant” defender – has since continued to shine at Atalanta, after Bayern Munich also made an attempt to sign the Italian during the summer.
Manchester City unlikely to go back in for Giorgio Scalvini
Clubs often return to transfer targets if an initial move fails – however, we cannot see Manchester City going back in for Scalvini as things stand.
Pep Guardiola now has Gvardiol, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias in his centre-back department at the Etihad Stadium.
If need be, Kyle Walker and Rodri can also operate in that area.

Therefore, it would be a major surprise if Manchester City signed the Italian in 2024 – given the vast competition already in central defence.
Nevertheless, Guardiola has already shown a tendency to put his defenders in midfield – such as Stones – so if that change becomes permanent later down the line, perhaps another move for the teenager could happen.
Only time will tell for sure, but we would be very surprised if Manchester City resurrect interest in Scalvini.
