Manchester City ahead of Manchester United in race for Jorge Mendes client

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are keen on signing Joao Neves, but there is competition from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United among other clubs for the midfielder.

That’s according to 90min, who are reporting that Manchester City and Manchester United are among the European giants who are keen on signing Joao Neves from Benfica.

The report has claimed that City, who won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season, are leading the race for Neves.

The Citizens “are already keeping close tabs on his situation, believing he would be ready to make the move to England”, according to the report.

90min has added that, like City, Manchester United have scouted the midfielder and have been impressed by him.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have also been impressed by Neves, who is a client of super agent Jorge Mendes, according to the report.

90min has added Benfica do not want to sell the 19-year-old in the January transfer window.

Neves is under contract at Benfica until the summer of 2028.
