Manchester City starlet Liam Delap has reportedly emerged as a target for Real Madrid.
The teenager is in lethal form right now in City’s EDS.
In 18 games for the U23s so far this season, Delap has banged in an astonishing 25 goals.
His amazing potential is not lost on Pep Guardiola, who handed hand the youngster his first-team debut back in September against Bournemouth.
He scored against the Cherries in the EFL Cup game, before the goals then started flooding at youth level.
Delap’s efforts this term have got lots of fans talking, and there are many who would love to see him get a full-time promotion to the first-team squad.
But City may actually face a battle to keep the talent, with the Daily Star reporting Real are now keen.
A decision will need to be made on Delap in the summer, and one can’t help but think back to the Jadon Sancho deal that was done in 2017.
The winger left the Etihad Stadium to join Borussia Dortmund for just £10 million (BBC Sport), and he is now in and around that world-class bracket of players nearly four years on.
Sancho left due to not wanting to take the challenge at Manchester City according to Pep Guardiola (via Bleacher Report), and hopefully there will be no repeats involving Delap, who is surely chomping at the bit for chance having actually already dipped his toe in.
Guardiola should give Delap assurances
Delap seems like he has the potential to become a special player, just like Sancho.
He cannot stop scoring goals at the moment, and with Sergio Aguero looking like he could finally bring his long spell at the club to an end, it’s a great chance to promote him.
It is little wonder Real Madrid are allegedly keen, with Karim Benzema now 33 years of age, but Delap doesn’t have to become another Sancho case for the club.
He’s already training a lot with the first-team and has made a few appearances – surely he’ll get the call from Pep ahead of 2021/22.
