The Citizens will strive to use the off-season sales to strengthen Guardiola’s squad further in the hopes of retaining their titles. Manchester City coupled a third Premier League title in a row with a first FA Cup title since 2019. Guardiola then lifted the first Champions League title in Manchester City’s trophy history.
Guardiola will now be loath to rest on his laurels at Etihad Stadium whilst Manchester City’s rivals look to improve. Mateo Kovacic – Manchester City confirmed the signing of the 29-year-old from Chelsea on June 27. The Citizens have paid an initial £25m, plus £5m in add-ons, for the Croatia midfielder, who has signed a four-year contract. He left Stamford Bridge after winning one Champions League and one Europa League title.
Josko Gvardiol – Manchester City announced the arrival of the 21-year-old in a £77m transfer from RB Leipzig on August 5. The Citizens made the Croatia wonderkid the second-most expensive defender of all time. He signed a five-year contract at the Etihad after two seasons in Saxony, returning 87 appearances.
Jeremy Doku – Manchester City secured the £55.5m transfer from Stade Rennais of the 21-year-old on August 24. The winger spent three seasons at Rennes, during which he offered 12 goals and 10 assists in 92 games. The Belgian struck seven and created four of his haul during 35 outings across the 22/23 term.

Josh McNamara – Southampton confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old from Manchester City on July 6. The goalkeeper moved to the south coast side on a two-year contract to link up with the Saints’ B-team at first. He had only ever played with the Citizens at the Under-18, 19 and 21 levels since joining in July 2018.
Morgan Rogers – Middlesbrough confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old forward from Manchester City on July 7. The attacker agreed to join the Championship side on a four-year contract after four years with the Citizens. He joined City in 2019 but never made his first-team debut around a series of loan transfers.
Cieran Slicker – Ipswich Town confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper from Manchester City on July 8. The 20-year-old joined the Tractor Boys on a three-year contract after joining Rochdale AFC on loan for 2022/23. He only featured three times for the Dale before returning to Etihad Stadium early in January.
Shea Charles – Southampton confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old from Manchester City on July 12. The midfielder left Etihad Stadium for St Mary’s in an initial £10.5m transfer, rising up to £15m with add-ons. City also secured sell-on and buyback clauses for their academy graduate, who joined them in 2011.
Yangel Herrera – Girona secured a permanent transfer for the 25-year-old on July 14 following a year on loan from Manchester City. The Venezuela midfielder agreed to sign a four-year contract to return to the Estadi Montilivi. He never played for the Citizens after joining in 2017 before sealing several loan moves.
James Trafford – Burnley confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old from Manchester City on July 20. The goalkeeper moved to Turf Moor for an initial £15m plus £4m in add-ons, a 20% sell-on clause and a buy-back option. He never featured for Man City’s first-team but helped England win the U21 Euros in 2023.
Adedire Mebude – KVC Westerlo and Manchester City agreed to a £1.5m transfer for the 19-year-old on July 26. The Citizens owed Rangers a sell-on fee from the transfer after his departure from Ibrox in 2020. The winger never played a senior game for the Citizens despite boasting a prolific record in the academy.
Riyad Mahrez – Al-Ahli sealed the £30m arrival of the 32-year-old from Manchester City on July 28. The Saudi Pro League side have also signed Roberto Firmino and Edouard Mendy this summer. Mahrez left Leicester City for £60m in 2018, won four Premier League titles and hit 78 goals in 236 games for the Citizens.
Carlos Borges – AFC Ajax confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old on August 3 in a €14m (£12m), rising to €19m (£17m), transfer from Manchester City. The Citizens also retained a buy-back clause and a 20% sell-on clause for the Portugal U19 winger. He joined City in 2014 but never got a first-team appearance.
Aymeric Laporte – Al Nasr sealed a £23.5m transfer from Manchester City for the 29-year-old on August 24. The Spain defender moved to the Saudi Pro League side after agreeing to a €25m-a-year (£412k-a/w) contract to 2026. He had featured in 180 games with the Citizens since 2018 and won 12 major trophies.

Liam Delap – Hull City confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old on loan from Manchester City on July 2. The centre-forward will spend the 2023/24 season at the Championship side following spells with Stoke City and Preston North End in 2022/23. He scored four goals in 37 second-tier games across both spells.
Kian Breckin – Wycombe Wanderers announced the arrival of the 19-year-old on loan from Manchester City on July 11. It marked the midfielder’s first temporary transfer after playing a key role in the Citizens’ third-straight U21 Premier League title. He is so far yet to make a senior appearance at Etihad Stadium.
Callum Doyle – Leicester City confirmed the signing of the 19-year-old on loan from Manchester City on July 14. The switch marked a return to the Championship for the defender after spending 2022/23 with Coventry City. He helped the Sky Blues reach the play-off final with 44 appearances in the second-tier.
Issa Kaboure – Luton Town secured a season-long loan transfer from Manchester City for the 22-year-old on July 21. The right-back joined the Citizens in July 2020 but is yet to make his debut. He has spent each of the past three seasons out on loan after joining KV Mechelen, ESTAC Troyes and Marseille respectively.
Josh Wilson-Esbrand – Stade de Reims added the 20-year-old on loan from Manchester City for a season on July 23. The left-back had ended the 2022/23 campaign on loan to Coventry City and helped the club reach the Championship play-off final. He featured 14 times but only started five after joining in January.
Finley Burns – Stevenage secured a season-long loan transfer from Manchester City for the 20-year-old on August 1. The centre-back was a regular with the Citizens’ Under-21 team in 2022/23 after returning from his loan spell at Swansea City. The former Southend talent only played three games after joining the Jacks in January 2022.
Alex Robertson – Portsmouth announced the arrival of the 20-year-old on loan from Manchester City on August 7. The midfielder will spend the 2023/24 season at Fratton Park for his second spell away from the Etihad. He also played on loan for Ross County in 2021 but is yet to earn his first-team debut for Man City.
Filip Stevanovic – RKC Waalwijk secured a season-long loan transfer from Manchester City for the winger on August 8. The 20-year-old agreed to move to the Eredivisie after spending 2022/23 on loan in Portugal with CD Santa Clara. He only played nine times and did not start a game as Os Acoreanos were relegated.
Maximo Perrone – UD Las Palmas signed the 20-year-old on loan from Manchester City for the 2023/24 season on August 23. He moved to La Liga eight months after joining the Citizens from CA Velez Sarsfield for £8m. The holding midfielder appeared twice under Guardiola with brief cameos totalling 20 minutes.
Luke Mbete – FC Den Bosch announced the arrival of the 19-year-old on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City on August 26. The England U21 centre-back switched to the Dutch second tier after a stint with Bolton Wanderers earlier in 2023. He played just eight times in League One and scored once.
Jadel Katongo – Peterborough United confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old on loan from Manchester City on August 29. The centre-half will spend the 2023/24 season with the League One team for his first spell away from the Citizens. He has played regularly in City’s U18 and U21s but never in the senior side.

Terrell Agyemang – Middlesbrough confirmed the signing of the full-back on June 6 after Manchester City elected to release the 20-year-old. Agyemang will move to Teesside as a free agent once his deal with the Citizens expires on June 30. He only spent one year with Man City after impressing the club whilst on trial.
Rowan McDonald – Manchester City confirmed that the defender would leave Etihad Stadium at the end of his contract in their retained and released list posted on June 16. The 21-year-old had spent his full junior career with the Citizens. But he never broke through to register his Manchester City first-team debut.
Benjamin Mendy – The Premier League first gave notice that Manchester City had released the defender on June 16. He cost the Citizens £52m to sign from AS Monaco in July 2017 and made 75 appearances. FC Lorient moved to sign Mendy as a free agent on July 19 with a two-year contract.
Ilkay Gundogan – Barcelona confirmed the signing of the 32-year-old in a free transfer from Manchester City on June 26. The German has signed an initial two-year contract at Camp Nou with a €400m (£343m) release clause following the expiration of his contract. He won the treble in 2022/23 as City’s club captain.
