Manchester City have had a busy summer on the transfer front, signing a number of top talents for the senior team.

So far, Manchester City have signed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Sverre Nypan and Marcus Bettinelli.

One squad area City could look to strengthen is in goal, with Ederson and Stefan Ortega having flattered to deceive last season.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Citizens are considering a move for an English goalkeeper who was backed by Cole Palmer to become “world-class”.

Manchester City thinking of bringing back James Trafford

The player in question is James Trafford, who previously played for Man City and is currently at Burnley.

Romano took to X to claim that Man City were considering a move for Trafford – if one of their two main goalkeepers leaves.

The transfer insider then reported that City have had contacts with Trafford’s camp over the past few days.

As City have a buyback clause, this has stalled Newcastle’s efforts to sign the 22-year-old stopper.

Cole Palmer is a huge fan of James Trafford

As good as City are, one area in which they have suffered in recent years has been foresight with regards to top talents in their ranks.

Trafford, Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer and Brahim Diaz are just a few of the players who have developed into great players since leaving City.

However, City actually have the opportunity of signing Trafford back, with the Daily Mail having previously reported a £40million buyback clause.

City would be getting themselves a player who Cole Palmer lauded just a few years ago.

“He’s so good. Even in training he’s so hard to score past,” the winger said in 2023, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“I first met him at under 12s. When he first came, everyone was thinking: ‘Who’s this kid?’.

“He came from Carlisle and as time went on everyone was looking at each other like: ‘Wow’.

“I always say to him, even when we were little, that he is going to be world class.

“I don’t think everyone has seen it yet and this tournament he is showing it now.

“I already knew how good he was, and I am just glad everyone is seeing it.”
