Manchester City could now do something that no other Manchester City side have done in Premier League history

Manchester City could now set a new club record in the Premier League if Pep Guardiola can steer his side to a win over Wolves on Saturday.

The Citizens travel to Molineux for their seventh Premier League outing of the 2023/24 campaign.

So, what piece of history could Manchester City achieve on Saturday? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to the BBC – Manchester City have never won their first seven games of any Premier League campaign.

As things stand, the Citizens have won all six of their Premier League clashes so far this season, meaning a victory over Gary O’Neil’s men would see this Manchester City side etch their name into the history books.

There was one Manchester City side who won their first seven league games, although that happened 126 years ago in England’s second tier, well before the Premier League era, back in the 1903/04 campaign.

Whether you want to call it the First Division or the Premier League, no Manchester City side in history have won their opening seven league games of a top-flight campaign.

Therefore, Guardiola could make more history at the Etihad Stadium, after also securing Manchester City’s first ever European Cup last season amongst countless other records.

Manchester City are still without some key men

If Guardiola is to achieve this bit of history, the Spaniard will have to do it without a few of his most important players.

As confirmed by the 52-year-old himself in his press conference earlier on Friday, Manchester City are still missing John Stones, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

All three played a huge role in last season’s historic treble, so it goes without saying that Guardiola will want them back as soon as possible.

Hopefully, the Citizens can still get the job done against Wolves without the important trio, and make history along the way.
