Manchester City could now do something they have not done since 2009 when Tottenham arrive at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The treble winners will be hoping to bounce back from successive draws in the Premier League – which came against Chelsea and Liverpool.

So, what could Manchester City do on Sunday? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City could do something we rarely see

Well, an interesting statistic has emerged ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Manchester City threw away all three points despite taking the lead in November’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Chelsea.

After the international break, Pep Guardiola again watched his side throw away a lead to squander victory.

Now – if Manchester City go ahead against Tottenham, but fail to win – it would be the first time since November 2009 that the Citizens have thrown away the win in Premier League action, when three consecutive draws against Burnley, Liverpool and Hull City were recorded, as shown on the BBC.

Of course, it is a very specific statistic, but one that just goes to emphasise how formidable Manchester City usually are when they take the lead.

Manchester City are lacking ruthlessness

Against both Chelsea and Liverpool, it appeared as if Manchester City would run riot after scoring first.

However – in both outings – the Citizens somewhat sat off and took their foot off the pedal, allowing the opposition a bit of hope, which ultimately got them back in the game.

As a result, Manchester City currently sit second in the Premier League – one point behind Arsenal – after allowing four points to slip away against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Whether that comes down to complacency after winning the treble – or something else – Guardiola must put it right.

If the Spaniard fails to do so, then he risks allowing a bit of a mental block to infiltrate his Manchester City squad amid the hectic festive period.
