Manchester City could soon find themselves in another Zinchenko & Jesus situation as rumour emerges – Our View

Manchester City could soon find themselves in another situation similar to the departures of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus.

It comes amid a story from Sky Germany which claims that Liverpool are a potential destination for Kalvin Phillips this January.

So, how does this tie into Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko leaving Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Jürgen Klopp is only really missing a natural holding midfielder at Anfield right now.

Thiago offers a quality option in that area but simply cannot stay fit – when the Spain international was almost ever present, Liverpool nearly won the quadruple.

Therefore, if Phillips was to end up at Liverpool this January, the deal would surely push an already brilliant side much closer to being Premier League title contenders once again.

If that did happen, there would surely be a strong sense of Déjà vu at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal – like the current Liverpool side – were a strong outfit in need of a small tweak, which Mikel Arteta received when Manchester City handed him Zinchenko and Jesus.

The Gunners are still not as strong as Manchester City, but those two deals pushed Arsenal must closer to Pep Guardiola’s side – we feel the exact same thing will happen if Phillips joins Liverpool and solves a major problem position for Klopp.

Manchester City must avoid another Zinchenko & Jesus situation

In our view, Manchester City should learn from the decisions which eventually strengthened Arsenal and opt to send Phillips abroad – if he is willing.

Sky Germany add that Juventus and Bayern Munich could also sign the England international.

Arsenal may have lost out on the Premier League last season, but the north Londoners had Manchester City worried for most of the campaign, and nothing suggests Arteta’s men won’t challenge again this term.

With Tottenham also looking strong, Manchester City would be foolish to potentially add another club into the title race by solving Liverpool’s biggest issue for them.
