Manchester City could reportedly still keep hold of club captain Ilkay Gundogan beyond the end of this season when his current contract expires.
According to a recent report from The Athletic, no decision has been made by the midfielder on what his decision will be in the summer, as the likes of Barcelona and other clubs are apparently interested in signing him.
The report also adds that potentially seeing the German put pen to paper on a new deal at the Etihad Stadium is also a prospect, even though there apparently is a “discrepancy between the two parties over the length of a fresh deal, although a late twist that results in City keeping hold of Gundogan is not beyond the realms of possibility.”

City’s recent 3-0 win over Everton in the Premier League saw the 32-year-old make his 300th appearance for the Citizens since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund back in 2016 in a deal worth £20m.
During his time with Pep Guardiola’s side, the midfielder has scored 58 goals, provide 40 assists and win numerous domestic trophies.
Having scored four goals and delivered one assist in his two previous league games, it’s clear that Gundogan is an important player for City and someone that steps up in the important moments, as he did in the final game of their last campaign by scoring two goals off the bench against Aston Villa to help the team win the title.
Taking all of that into account, we feel that the club should do all they can to get their veteran midfielder to sign a new deal at the Etihad and continue his journey with the team.
