Manchester City eyeing Wilfried Gnonto transfer

Manchester City reportedly have their eyes on signing Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer.

The winger will be facing Championship football next season after Leeds found themselves being relegated from the Premier League last weekend.

However, it has since been reported that two of England’s top sides have the attacker on their radar.

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, City and Arsenal are following Gnonto’s situation and are waiting to find out what Leeds want to do with the player before their Championship campaign kicks off.

Leeds signed the 19-year-old back in the previous summer transfer window from FC Zurich for a fee of £3.8m.

Since then, the Italian has made 28 appearances for the Yorkshire club across all competitions, scoring four goals and supplying four assists along the way.

To highlight how much of an attacking impact the winger had for Leeds this season across his 24 appearances, he ended the campaign with the second-highest number of passes into the penalty area (19), goal-creating actions (7) and carries into the final third of the pitch (37) at the club.

Despite having a disappointing end to the season with Leeds, the youngster has caught the attention of one former City figure, as Italy manager Roberto Mancini highlighted Gnonto is a player that has significant “quality” for someone of his age.

With City having a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow English sides, including signing Kalvin Phillips from Leeds last summer, it’s easy to see why they have been linked with a move for Gnonto, especially given his attacking efforts on the pitch for the Whites.

Moving forward, if the Yorkshire club are willing to cash in on the winger this summer, we feel that he could be an ideal long-term attacking figure for Pep Guardiola’s side.
