Manchester City fans all in agreement after hearing update about Bernardo Silva’s future

Bernardo Silva is at something of a crossroads in his Manchester City career, with his summer ahead looking uncertain to say the least.

For 2017 signing Bernardo Silva, this season has certainly been a struggle. The 30-year-old has scored just twice and assisted four more in 26 Premier League appearances this season, being one of many who seem to have fallen behind in 2024/25.

Ahead of the summer, there’s speculation that Silva could leave Man City. His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season and so this summer would be the ideal time for Pep Guardiola to cash in on Silva, who City paid £43.5million for.

But speaking recently, Silva said he wants to stay at Manchester City for some time to come. Right now, Man City have no plans to extend Silva’s contract.

Manchester City fans don’t want Bernardo Silva to stay

As much as City fans like Silva and appreciate all he’s done for the club, many think it’s time for him and indeed for the club to move on.

“Hard pass,” said one Man City fan in response to Silva’s comments. Others added: “We don’t want him to stay,” and even: “Pep doesn’t trust him much anymore.”

Another City supporter weighed in with: “Just a shame because he will just continue to hamper his legacy the longer he stays.” A similar comment read: “It’s time to leave buddy, we love him but it’s time.”

Meanwhile, this fan added: “You have wanted out for the last four years now we would like you to move on please.”

The Manchester City players out of contract in 2026

This summer sees Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Scott Carson come to the ends of their contracts, though City have an option to extend Gundogan’s stay.

Then in 2026, there’s Silva, John Stones, Ederson, Stefan Ortega, and James McAtee all out of contract, so it’d be fair to assume that the next two seasons will see some of City’s stalwarts leave.

Silva is certainly among them, and among those who’ve found this season difficult. Playing 50 games every season has taken its toll on many but what Pep plans for Silva remains to be seen.
