Phil Foden was disappointing once again for Manchester City as they suffered a 2-0 loss against Liverpool on Sunday.
Foden did not have the easiest job at hands as he was tasked to operate in an unnatural position as a false nine by Pep Guardiola against one of the best backlines in the world.
But even so, Phil Foden was unusually sloppy on the ball and failed to impose himself on proceedings.
Considering the 24-year-old won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award last season, his fall from grace this campaign has been alarming to say the least.
The Englishman’s confident seems to have been dented as he is merely coasting through games without having a say on Manchester City’s displays.
However, City fans are sick and tired of Foden’s muted showings and they were critical of the versatile attacker after he underwhelmed against Liverpool.

Manchester City fans slam Phil Foden after losing to Liverpool
One Manchester City fan slated Foden’s display against Liverpool by simply saying: “Foden’s been poor, seriously poor.”
Another City supporter questioned if Foden is even world-class after he failed to step up against Liverpool, writing: “Foden’s not world class. Leave your academy bias aside. He does not have the ability to step up and impact a game when the team is down.”
A third Manchester City fan wrote on X: “By the way, Philip Walter Foden, it’s getting quite hard to keep on defending you.”
A fourth supporter added: “I’m a fan but I have absolutely no sympathy for Foden and the slander he’s going to get today, plays more risk averse than a 22-year-old [Jeremy] Doku, 20-year-old Savinho and 33-year-old Kevin De Bruyne. Can’t even say conditions are against him when you look and the position [Abdukodir] Khusanov has been put in right now.”
A fifth Manchester City claimed Foden looks worse than an ageing De Bruyne, stating: “Controversial opinion: Phil Foden looks far worse than Kevin De Bruyne but hey, maybe we can give an argument about ‘Kevin’s legs are gone’ and not look stupid. Right? People may not like it but it’s unacceptable for a player supposed to be in his prime to be that lost.”
Finally, a sixth Sky Blues fan said: “The loss of Foden for the entire season has been as painful as losing the rest of the physically missing players.
Foden’s stats during Man City vs Liverpool prove fans right
Even the statistics showcase just how quiet Foden was against Liverpool.
| PHIL FODEN STATS VS LIVERPOOL | |
| XG + XA | 0.15 |
| TOUCHES IN OPPOSITION BOX | 2 |
| PASSES IN FINAL THIRD | 2 |
| CHANCES CREATED | 0 |
| DISPOSSESED | 4 |
| DUELS LOST | 5 |
The Stockport-born midfielder created no chances and barely provided any threat going forward, taking just two touches in the opposition box and making two passes in the final third.
Foden was rather clumsy with the ball at his feet, getting dispossessed eight times.
Meanwhile, the six-time Premier League winner was dispossessed five times too.
As brilliant a player as Foden has consistently been for years now, he is going through a serious rough patch.
It is high-time the decorated attacker steps up or Pep Guardiola might have no choice but to drop him.
