Manchester City supporters have been praising midfielder Ilkay Gundogan today, after making comments that underline what a brilliant team player he is.
The German star is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career at present.
In 32 appearances so far in 2020/21, Gundogan has bagged 14 goals.
So good has his form been that he scooped the Premier League Player of the Month award for January and February, and he’s in with a very good chance of making the PFA Team of the Year.
Gundogan’s goalscoring exploits have been a real talking point this term, but for the player, it’s still all about the team.
In an interview with Sky Sports, he said: “I am far away from saying that I want to keep on scoring.
“If I have to sign a document that says I am not going to score any more goals this season but my team are going to win all of the trophies I am going to sign that document right now.
“It is about putting your ego to one side and allowing the team to shine, not just yourself.”
Gundogan’s humble ways are well known by many City fans.
Only recently it was reported (via MEN) that he had launched a new charity appeal to raise much-needed funds for local cafes and restaurants in Manchester that have been struggling due to the pandemic.
The £20 million star (BBC Sport) is every inch a superstar off the field as he is on it, and he will be remembered very fondly after he eventually leaves the Etihad Stadium.
