Manchester City finished the 2020/21 Premier League season with a resounding 5-0 win over Everton – and it was a fitting end for Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine striker was named as a substitute due to a lack of match fitness, but came off the bench on 65 minutes to replace Riyad Mahrez.
City fans speaking an Aguero goal into existence got their wish just minutes later, as the South American poked home from inside the area with the outside of his foot after great work to make the space.
Not content with that, Aguero then scored again with a superb header from a pinpoint cross from Fernandinho into the bottom corner.
It was all wonderfully full circle, with Aguero having scored twice coming off the bench in his first-ever game for the club against Swansea City back in 2011 following his transfer from Atletico Madrid.
He might well have had a hat-trick, but that was probably asking for a little too much romanticism.
That header means Aguero leaves City with a total of 184 goals in the Premier League, making him the player with the most goals for a single club in the competition.
The tributes have been pouring in for one of the Premier League’s greatest imports, and the emotion of manager Pep Guardiola on Sky Sports perfectly summed up the feelings of every City fan.
Of course, there is one final game for City in the form of the Champions League final against Chelsea, and there is potential for one last hurrah.
Aguero has been a sensation, and fans have tried their very best to put into words just how they feel about the 32-year-old:
greatest Premier League striker of all time

Came on as a sub and scored 2 on his debut, came on as a sub and scored 2 on his final appearance – an #mcfc career that came full circle with a boatload of trophies and goals in between. Thanks for the memories @aguerosergiokun 👏 pic.twitter.com/JmGvMPcscP
