Manchester City have hit the ground running in the summer transfer window, wrapping up a number of top signings before mid-June.

Manchester City didn’t have the best of seasons last time out, but they’ve set about rectifying this – and their squad is now looking stronger.

Midfield duo Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli have all joined City in the past few days.

Now, reports have emerged of another prospective signing that City fans feel is “another masterstroke”.

Manchester City fans buzzing over prospect of signing Sverre Nypan

Manchester City are now closing in on the signing of Rosenborg star Sverre Nypan, according to David Ornstein and numerous other reports.

Arsenal were confident of signing Nypan in January, but the midfielder opted to delay his decision after talking with a number of clubs.

Aston Villa then emerged as frontrunners, but Ornstein has now claimed that Nypan is City-bound.

City fans are buzzing over the prospect of another top midfielder being signed, with a clear plan in place for the present and future of the midfield.

“Sverre Nypan, 18 and one of the best up and coming talents in Europe is set to sign for City, it just gets better,” one fan wrote on X.

“Will be the record fee for a player from the Norwegian league and will be loaned out for a year to continue developing, the future is looking very, very bright.”

Another fan said: “Big move for both Nypan and Norwegian football!

“City securing a top young talent—one for the future. Loan move makes sense for development. Pep always plans long-term.”

The praise kept coming, with one fan saying: “We don’t need Gibbs-White anymore.

“Loan Nypan out for a year then get him into rotation when Kovacic leaves next season and keep him around the first team.

“Reijnders is 27 already, and in 2-3 years of Premier League experience, Nypan would be ready for the first team.”

Another wrote: “In a world full of Barturinas and El Khannouss, we’ve gone and bagged ourselves Nypan. Another masterstroke from Viana.”

Another supporter said: “This guy will be balling out for us in a few years and people will be saying where has he come from.”

What City fans can expect from Sverre Nypan

Norway are developing a golden generation, with Martin Odegaard, Erling Haaland, and Antonio Nusa all shining – and Nypan is set to be the next in line.

At just 18 years of age, Nypan has already made 70 appearances for Rosenborg, registering an impressive 14 goals and 11 assists.

Nypan is a technically gifted player with a superb football IQ, and his abilities to pass and carry the ball, as well as creating chances and scoring goals, are at a very high level for his age.

Nypan’s talent and potential have seen him earn comparisons with Odegaard, one of the most exciting wonderkids of his day.

“Sverre Nypan is extremely exciting, and I get a bit of the same feeling as when I saw Martin Odegaard break through as a boy,” Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen told TV2 in August 2023.
