Manchester City boosted their chances of finishing in the Premier League’s top four after running out 1-0 winners over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.

Erling Haaland’s 12th-minute goal proved the difference between the two sides, with Manchester City now fourth in the Premier League table.

It has been a difficult campaign for the Citizens due to injuries and ageing legs, but the rebuild is already under way.

City were busy in the January transfer window, making a number of high-profile signings who are already making an impact.

And now, City fans believe they have a future captain on their hands after one of those players delivered a solid performance against Spurs.

Abdukodir Khusanov backed to become a future Manchester City captain

The player in question is Abdukodir Khusanov, who grew into the game and showed just how much quality and potential he has.

Although there were some shaky moments, his performance was solid overall, and the fact he’s just 20 years old shows he can become a lot better still.

One fan wrote on X: “Khusanov sounds like the kind of footballer who would make his own way from Manchester to London, jump on the tube, and walk from Seven Sisters to WHL.

“F.C.C. Future City Captain . Oh, how I wish they were all like him . Just there to play football.”

“Khusanov isn’t looking for attention, he’s here to excel,” another said.

“No distractions, just real football. This young player has what it takes to be a future star at City.”

Another said: “Khusanov really impressed me today, his pace and progressive passes are very useful. He is the future.”

The praise kept coming, with one fan describing Khusanov as a “future star boy in the making” and another saying he’s a “future legend”.

Another wrote: “Khusanov is going to be a monster for us, you can already see it. Future legend guaranteed.”

“Nahh Khusanov, I just love him man,” said another fan. “He’ll make a great future captain for us.”
