Manchester City fans think they might be about to make a signing that would be ‘payback’ for losing Cole Palmer

Manchester City fans are still hurting after the Premier League giants allowed Cole Palmer to join Chelsea during the summer of 2023.

The decision seemed like the correct one at the time, with both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden occupying the roles the Englishman likes to operate in, with the 25-year-old even going on to win the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for the 2023/24 campaign.

Man City fans also think Palmer made the right decision to move to Chelsea, as that has helped the midfielder to develop into one of the best players in the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean it hurts any less.

Man City did not include a buyback clause in Palmer’s deal as they didn’t deem it necessary; however, the Manchester club could now get some revenge by signing a young talent on Chelsea’s books.

Man City are interested in signing Chelsea’s Josh Acheampong

One of the biggest questions around Man City ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves is the lack of options Pep Guardiola has at right-back.

The Manchester club have failed to acquire a player for that role over the summer, and their options might even decrease further, as Nottingham Forest are pushing for Rico Lewis.

If the 20-year-old departs the Etihad Stadium, City will need to sign a replacement, and according to The Guardian, Manchester City are interested in signing Josh Acheampong from Chelsea, but the Blues are expected to reject any moves for the talented young defender.

Enzo Maresca is believed to be a big fan of the 19-year-old and is adamant that he does not want to lose the right-back.

However, that has not stopped clubs from tracking the youngster’s progress, and it remains to be seen if Man City make an official move for Acheampong, who played 13 times for Chelsea last season.

Man City fans want Josh Acheampong to be signed

Acheampong would be a great addition to Man City’s squad, as the youngster is the type of player Guardiola likes due to his versatility.

The 19-year-old can play at both right-back and centre-back, and being aware of this, Man City fans have called for their club to make a move for the Chelsea defender.

One Man City fan commented on the Acheampong links by saying on X (formerly known as Twitter): “That would be a great move.”

Another supporter of the Manchester club added: “Payback for Palmer.”

While a final Man City fan said about the transfer links: “About time we take one of their young players.”

A deal for Acheampong seems very difficult given Chelsea’s stance on the player, but the West London club may be tempted to sell if the right offer arrives.
