Manchester City had very real interest in signing a top player from Liverpool last summer it seems.
And Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola may well be wishing that he had brought the Liverpool star to The Etihad from Anfield now.
Man City face a big summer ahead, and are thought to be lining up some exciting summer transfers, including a blockbuster move for Viktor Gyokeres.
Numerous players could be leaving The Etihad as well, with around £189 million of potential sales on the horizon.
City face a tough challenge if they are to climb back to the top of the footballing tree, both domestically and on the continent.

The drop-off in levels have been drastic from many Man City players this season.
And it is now obvious to see that the squad should have been significantly strengthened before the start of the season.
Pep seemingly wanted to bolster his attacking ranks last summer, but was unable to do so in the end.
Manchester City looked at signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool
Luis Diaz only has two years remaining on his current deal at Anfield.
And it seems like his future may well lie away from Liverpool.
Had things worked out differently, it seems as though he could actually have been a Man City player now.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Manchester City had genuine interest in signing Liverpool star Luis Diaz last summer.
And the 28-year-old could well leave Anfield this summer, according to Ornstein:

“Still no sign of a new contract, which is unusual for such a prominent player who has been at Anfield for as long as Diaz. Barcelona have long been linked with him; their admiration is genuine. There was definitely something in the Man City reports last summer, too. If he is available, there will be many suitors! Amid all the focus on MS, VVD and TAA, this is one of lesser-mentioned unknowns at Anfield but still hugely important. As we know, Liverpool looked at Anthony Gordon before the June 30 PSR deadline but I don’t know if that will be revisited. They will naturally have a number of other options, too, if something needs to be activated.“
Diaz joined Liverpool on an initial £34 million deal in January 2022, but that fee could climb to around £50 million with incentivised add-ons (The Guardian).
But could he still be on City’s radar?
Will Manchester City try again to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool?
He has bagged 37 goals and 18 assists in 139 games for Liverpool (Transfermarkt).
Despite looking extremely impressive during his debut campaign with Liverpool, his end product hasn’t really been good enough on the whole.
Man City signed Omar Marmoush in January, and Pep will be looking for another top-class left winger in the summer.
Right now, there isn’t room for Liverpool star Luis Diaz at Manchester City, in my opinion at least.
Man City will most likely go big on a younger and better talent that the Colombia international this summer.
