Manchester City have just made something very clear about Vitor Reis’ future at the Etihad

Manchester City are currently working on exits as they look to trim down Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of the 25/26 campaign.

The legendary coach made it clear towards the end of last season that he does not want to work with a big group during the upcoming term, and with Man City having signed five players this summer, the Premier League giants need to start making some moves.

James McAtee is Man City’s current focus, as the midfielder is the easiest player to sell given the interest in the 22-year-old. The likes of Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips will be much harder to find a new club for, with their futures to be sorted later in the transfer window.

Securing loan moves for Vitor Reis and Claudio Echeverri would be another easy way of trimming down Guardiola’s squad, but a decision has now been made regarding the Brazilian.

Vitor Reis will not be joining Girona

It was reported at the start of the month that Girona are interested in Reis and Echeverri, with the Brazilian the more likely of the duo to make the switch to La Liga for the 25/26 campaign, but that now seems to have changed.

According to a Brazilian journalist, Andre Hernan, Reis will not join Girona on loan this summer and is expected back for pre-season training with the rest of the Man City squad on July 28.

The Premier League club are not in negotiations with their sister team over a temporary deal, as it remains to be seen what happens with Reis’ future.

Other clubs are likely to enquire about the availability of the centre-back ahead of the new season getting underway next month, but it is now likely that the 19-year-old will remain at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City do not plan to loan out Vitor Reis

Despite the interest from Germany, Spain, and England, Man City do not plan on loaning out Reis this summer as Guardiola has plans for the centre-back in Manchester.

There have been mixed reports regarding the Brazilian’s future, but the most likely outcome is that the 19-year-old stays and learns what Guardiola expects from him ahead of the 26/27 campaign, where the youngster could take over from Ruben Dias.

Man City have a lot of faith in Reis becoming one of the best defenders in the world, and the hope will be that the defender can take a big step forward in his development over the next 12 months.

It remains to be seen if any loan move will convince City to allow the defender to leave for the 24/25 campaign, as guaranteed minutes at a Premier League club could be very beneficial to all involved.
