Rio Ferdinand has fired back at the Erling Haaland critics after his 5-goal display against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Haaland made history on the night, becoming only the 3rd player in the history of Europeβs elite competition to do score five in a single game amongst a number of other records.
However, as Marco Rose discovered and went on to go against, the 22-year-old has been slated for making this Manchester City side worse according to many.
After Haaland sent City into the Champions League quarter-finals after his incredible showing against Leipzig, Rio Ferdinand defended him against his detractors.
Rio Ferdinand sticks up for Erling Haaland after RB Leipzig masterclass
The youngster is currently the leading goalscorer in the entirety of European football with a staggering 39 alone to his name this campaign.
Rio Ferdinand, who is widely acknowledged as a Manchester United legend went out of his way to defend Erling Haaland against his doubters after he took RB Leipzig apart singlehandedly.
βWhat Haaland is doing in football right now is astonishing. When heβs playing like this in the team, they [City] are absolutely dominant. He gives the feeling as long as everyone else is a 7/10 and heβs here [then] βwe winβ, he said, as relayed by the Mirror.
βHe brings a superpower to the team and this is already a supercharged team with exceptional talent, and thereβs a hunger and desire in his play above everything else. Scandalously, Iβve heard people say he [negatively] impacts the way this team plays. 39 goals in the seasonβ¦ he only makes this team better.β
Rio Ferdinand has hit the nail on the head, as Erling Haaland proved once again that if Manchester City get their house in order as a unit, as was on show against the German giants, he remains devastating.
And even when that has not been the case, the Norwegian wonderkid has done the same, which makes it bizarre why he has been incessantly criticised by fans and pundits alike.
