Manchester City are now on red alert after Bayer Leverkusen decided to sell Florian Wirtz in 2024.

That is according to SPORT in Spain.

So, what is the situation involving Florian Wirtz and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Germany international is one of the hottest talents on the planet right now.

Wirtz has scored three goals – while also providing four assists – in ten appearances this season, bouncing back from a serious knee injury to ensure the excitement surrounding him has not dropped off whatsoever.

As a result, Bayer Leverkusen have a very expensive footballer on their hands, with the German outfit now choosing to cash in on the 20-year-old and secure themselves a club-record sale in 2024.

SPORT believe Wirtz would ideally like to join Barcelona, but the Spanish giants have ruled themselves out of the race due to financial restraints.

The Spanish news outlet even add that Barcelona want the German to wait at Bayer Leverkusen for another season, although this apparently will not happen.

SPORT then describe Manchester City, Newcastle United and Manchester United as being “attentive” to the situation involving Wirtz and plan to bid in 2024.

It is also said that Bayer Leverkusen will consider offers in the region of €85m (£74m).

Manchester City have to pounce on Florian Wirtz

Manchester City arguably have no need for another attacker right now with Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

However, players as talented as Wirtz do not end up on the market too often throughout their respective careers, so Manchester City may have no choice but to pounce in 2024.

Some Manchester City fans want the Bayer Leverkusen No.10 signed as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who turns 33 in June.

The Belgian surely doesn’t have much longer left at the highest level – especially with this reoccurring hamstring issue – so perhaps Wirtz could step into the Manchester City No.17’s boots next season.

Only time will tell what happens – so be sure to keep an eye on this situation.
