Manchester City have broken their silence on the European Super League after a truly unforgettable night.
The club were earlier reported to have pulled out of the proposed competition, following an absolutely enormous backlash.
City have now confirmed the widespread reports, writing: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that it has formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League.”
The announcement comes after a day of mounting pressure from fans of all clubs, calling on the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ -and indeed the other foreign clubs – to do the right thing.
There have been protests outside the grounds of the concerned clubs, and earlier this evening, news arrived of Chelsea’s intention to pull out.
They were closely followed by City, and talkSPORT have claimed that all 12 teams are now abandoning the idea.
The episode has proven the power and influence football fans can have when they come together, and who knows what could potentially happen off the back of this.
While tonight will feel like a victory given what might have been, it is important for everyone to never forget what the owners tried to do.
