Manchester City reportedly keen on Southampton striker Danny Ings

Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Southampton and England striker Danny Ings.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Premier League leaders are thinking of ways to strengthen their attack this summer, with Sergio Aguero looking to be on borrowed time now at the Etihad Stadium.

The Argentine striker has struggled with fitness issues this season which have limited him to just nine appearances so far, and turns 33 in the summer.

There have been some suggestions that Erling Haaland may be a target, and also Romelu Lukaku.

But Ornstein reports that Ings, 28, is ‘firmly’ on City’s radar.

The star has been a revelation for Southampton since joining from Liverpool in the summer of 2018 initially on loan.

His move was turned permanent a year later for around £20 million (BBC Sport), and to date Ings has 40 goals in 86 games for the club.

Ornstein adds that there has been talk about the possibility of adding players into a potential deal for Ings.

Ings would be a great signing

Not only is Ings a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, but he also has outstanding work rate, which is something players must be willing to demonstrate at Manchester City.

His name may not be as glamorous as a Haaland or a Lukaku, but Ings is a great player who could potentially arrive on the cheap with his contract expiring in the summer of 2022.

Realistically, given the amount of chances City’s stars create, there’s every chance Ings would be a success at the Etihad.
