Manchester City face a crucial week in the UEFA Champions League.
Pep Guardiola welcomes Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium for the first leg of a two-legged play-off clash, where a place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 awaits the winner.
Many would have expected this heavyweight encounter to occur in the latter stages of the competition, given the fact both are undoubted giants of modern football, but there is no escaping the fact one side will not make it to the Round of 16.
Should Manchester City end up knocking Real Madrid out and progressing into the last 16, a bonus prize awaits.
How much Manchester City will receive in prize money if Pep Guardiola knocks Real Madrid out
As UEFA revealed in an official document back in March 2024, those who reach the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 will receive a package of £9.3m in prize money.

Manchester City have, however, already received some cash for just making this play-off clash against Real Madrid, with UEFA paying out £842,669.
It means the Citizens will bank a total of £10.1m if Guardiola defeats Ancelotti across two legs, a game Micah Richards fears for Matheus Nunes in, up against Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester City already banked millions of pounds from their underwhelming league phase efforts
UEFA also pay out some prize money for each league phase result.
Manchester City may only have won three and drawn two of their eight league phase games, but those results still netted the Citizens a total of £6.6m to bank into the account.
That is because UEFA give £1.8m for each league phase win, and £589,868 for each draw in the league phase.
Of course, this prize money will be a drop in the ocean for a club as wealthy as Manchester City – who spent almost £180m on four new signings during the winter transfer window – but it will be a welcome chunk of cash nonetheless.
