Mario Balotelli has said that he thinks Erling Haaland is the best striker in the world right now.

Next month, Manchester City will take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final, with both clubs fighting to lift the trophy in Istanbul.

Looking ahead to this big game, one figure, who has played for both finalists previously, has shared his thoughts on one particular weapon Pep Guardiola’s side have at their disposal and hope can help them become European champions.

Balotelli dubs Haaland as ‘extraordinary’

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), Balotelli said this when asked if he thinks City have the best centre-forward in football.

He said: “Erling is extraordinary. The numbers tell you that he’s the best striker in the world, but for me, it’s a question of personal preference.”

With 51 appearances under his belt in all competitions this season, the 22-year-old has scored 52 goals, delivered nine assists and broke numerous records as well as lifting his first Premier League trophy.

As a result, the Norwegian has won the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year award and been named as the Premier League’s Player of the Season.

In terms of his league efforts, Haaland has scored more goals (36) than any other player across Europe’s top five divisions.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Balotelli, who scored 30 goals in 80 appearances for City, has been so impressed with Haaland.

Moving forward, if the Norway international can end his debut season in England with an FA Cup and Champions League medal in addition to his other awards, this will surely be a dream first year with City and hopefully one he can look to improve on.
