Paul Merson has said that Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne will give Manchester City a big boost in the race to win the Premier League title.
The duo shared the pitch together for the first time since August during the Manchester club’s 3-1 win over Brentford on Monday night.
With the Citizens set to take on Everton later today for their latest Premier League outing, one pundit has highlighted how important the pair could be throughout the remainder of the campaign.
Merson says City duo will be massive in title race

Writing in his latest column for Sportskeeda where he previewed all of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Merson had this to say about City’s squad and the two players, in particular, that he thinks are key for the club.
He said: “In Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, they’ve got two world-class players back in their squad and that is a massive, massive advantage.
“The likes of Jack Grealish and John Stones didn’t even get off the bench against Brentford – that just goes to show what a phenomenal squad they’ve built.”
Looking back over the previous Premier League campaign, Haaland and De Bruyne racked up a combined total of 43 goals and 24 assists.
This shows how much of an impact the duo have in terms of delivering goal contributions for the team and why Merson thinks they will be massive over the next few months.
Even though the Norwegian has already scored 14 league goals this season prior to today’s match against Everton, if he has De Bruyne behind him for the rest of the campaign, he could potentially score a similar amount to the 36 goals he scored last term.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, if the pair can avoid any more injury issues and are able to get back to the rhythm they were in for the majority of the previous campaign, they will definitely give Pep Guardiola’s side a strong chance of lifting even more silverware.
